New Orleans Man Guilty of Gun Crime

KEITH A. JAMES, a 27-year-old New Orleans man, has pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a prohibited person in a case brought as part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program.

According to court documents, JAMES was found in possession of a firearm on July 11, 2017. This is significant, given his previous conviction for armed robbery and purse snatching in 2008.

JAMES’s guilty plea carries a maximum prison term of 10 years, followed by a three-year term of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Martin L.C. Feldman has set sentencing for September 26, 2018.

The case was brought as part of the PSN program, which aims to reduce violent crime and make neighborhoods safer through cooperation between law enforcement agencies. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has made addressing rising violent crime a top priority.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Louisiana Probation & Parole in bringing this case to justice.
