New Orleans, LA – In a shocking case of violent crime, 22-year-old Treyvon Tobias of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, was sentenced to 125 months imprisonment for brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.
According to court documents, in December 2017, Tobias and others forcibly entered the residence of Victim-1 after pistol-whipping the victim. Tobias and others then robbed the victim of marijuana, money, and a cell phone at gunpoint.
Analysis of cell phone location information after the robbery helped uncover the whereabouts of Tobias and his co-conspirators during the robbery.
The case is being prosecuted as part of the joint federal, state, and local Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Program, the centerpiece of the government’s violent crime reduction efforts.
PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime. Through PSN, a broad spectrum of stakeholders work together to identify the most pressing violent crime problems in the community and develop comprehensive solutions to address them.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office praised the work of the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. The prosecution of the case was conducted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn McHugh.
Tobias, 22, was also ordered to serve 3 years of supervised release and pay a $300 mandatory special assessment fee following his imprisonment.
