Billy Washington, Marijuana and Firearm Possession, Louisiana 2023

A New Orleans man has been sentenced for his role in a marijuana and firearm case. Billy Washington, 34, had pleaded guilty to charges of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to court documents, DEA agents executed a search warrant at Washington’s residence and recovered a semi-automatic pistol and approximately three-quarters of a pound of marijuana. Washington, a convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing firearms by both state and federal law.

Court records revealed that Washington was convicted on May 19, 2003, of possession of heroin in Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.

On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown sentenced Washington to a term of imprisonment of twelve months and a day, to be followed by three years of supervised release, and a $200 special assessment.

Washington’s sentence comes as a result of the work of the Drug Enforcement Administration in investigating the case.

Assistant United States Attorney Michael B. Redmann was in charge of the prosecution. U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the DEA in investigating this matter.

Billy Washington’s case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of violating laws related to firearms and narcotics.

The prosecution of Washington’s case was handled by Assistant United States Attorney Michael B. Redmann. The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
