Kyle Petersen, Pill Smuggling, Connecticut 2024

Bridgeport, CT – A ruthless Newington drug kingpin, KYLE PETERSEN, 39, has been handed down a life sentence of over eleven years by U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley for his relentless campaign of pill trafficking and violating the conditions of his supervised release after previous federal convictions.

Petersen’s reign of drug terror began in May 2023 when DEA agents zeroed in on suspicious packages being sent to his residence. The investigation revealed a web of illegal activity involving over 400 grams of the synthetic opioid Protonitazene, which is more potent than fentanyl. Petersen was already under federal supervision due to his 2017 conviction for the same offense.

The court-authorized search of one package led to the discovery of 34 similar packages from Michigan and California/Oregon, containing a large quantity of marijuana. The DEA’s Tactical Diversion Squad also conducted controlled purchases of counterfeit Percocet pills with fentanyl from Petersen’s brother, ERIK PETERSEN.

Petersen and his brother were nabbed on April 3, 2024, during a search that unearthed more than a kilogram of counterfeit Adderall, oxycodone, and Xanax, along with $76,650 in cash. Kyle Petersen faced additional charges for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and Protonitazine.

On April 2, 2025, Petersen pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 120 months in prison for the drug offenses, with an extra 18 months for violating supervised release. His brother Erik received a sentence of 43 months for his related charges.

This high-profile case was investigated by the DEA New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad, collaborating with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and local law enforcement agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan J. Keefe prosecuted the matter with relentless vigor.
