PROVIDENCE – Kyle Patrick Tomey, a resident of Newport, Rhode Island, has been slapped with federal charges for allegedly enticing a minor into illicit sexual activity and possessing child pornography. The grim allegations were brought forth by Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.
The indictment levies charges against Tomey, including coercion and enticement of a minor on two separate occasions, attempted coercion and enticement of a minor, receipt of child pornography, and possession of the same. It’s important to note that these charges are merely accusations, and Tomey is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
According to court documents, Tomey is accused of using various social media platforms to communicate with a young girl, persuading her to meet him for illegal sexual acts. Law enforcement authorities claim to have discovered graphic images of the minor in various stages of undress, stored on a social media account linked to Tomey. They also uncovered numerous communications between Tomey and the girl that led up to the alleged encounter, as well as child sexual abuse material involving other minors.
Assistant United States Attorney Milind M. Shah is handling the prosecution in this case, which was investigated by the FBI and West Warwick Police Department. Acting United States Attorney Sara M. Bloom extends her gratitude to the Newport Police for their support in the investigation and arrest of Tomey.
