Neylton Fontes Guilty of Fentanyl, Cocaine Trafficking
Brockton man Neylton Fontes, 36, has pleaded guilty to his role in a large-scale fentanyl and cocaine trafficking conspiracy in and around the Quincy and Weymouth areas.
According to court documents, around January 2021, Fontes possessed with intent to distribute cocaine, fentanyl and fentanyl analogue and participated in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine, fentanyl and fentanyl analogue in Quincy and Weymouth. The charges of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, fentanyl, and fentanyl analogue and conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute each provide for a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, at least three years and up to a lifetime of supervised release and a fine of up to $1 million.
Fontes was indicted along with three others in October 2023. U.S. Senior District Court Judge William G. Young scheduled sentencing for September 16, 2024. Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy and Jodi Cohen, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Division made the announcement today.
The effort is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation. OCDETF identifies, disrupts, and dismantles the highest-level criminal organizations that threaten the United States using a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven, multi-agency approach. The investigation was a joint effort between the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Department, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, Massachusetts State Police, and the Brockton, Quincy, Weymouth, Braintree, Boston, Bridgewater, East Bridgewater and Barnstable Police Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Kaitlin R. O’Donnell and Philip A. Mallard of the Organized Crime & Gang Unit are prosecuting the case.
The details contained in the charging documents are allegations. The defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
