Nolan Ryan Rork, 19, Sentenced to 125 Months in Federal Prison for Firearm Charge
In a shocking turn of events, Nolan Ryan Rork, a 19-year-old Ottumwa native, has been sentenced to 125 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a felon. The sentence was handed down in the Southern District of Iowa.
According to public court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, Rork was on probation with the State of Iowa in early 2024. However, he removed his electronic ankle monitor in April 2024, sparking a manhunt that would ultimately lead to his downfall.
In June 2024, law enforcement located Rork, who was fleeing the scene. In a desperate attempt to evade capture, Rork threw his backpack, which contained two loaded firearms and more than 60 grams of methamphetamine.
The investigation into Rork’s activities was a joint effort between the Wapello County Sheriff’s Office and the Ottumwa Police Department. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities across the country.
Rork’s sentence will also include a three-year term of supervised release upon completion of his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of community-based programs and law enforcement partnerships in preventing violent crime and keeping our neighborhoods safe.
