Joseph F. Greth, Possession of Child Pornography, Texas 2013

A 57-year-old North Richland Hills man has been sentenced to 80 months in federal prison for possessing child pornography.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Joseph F. Greth, 57, was sentenced this morning by U.S. District Judge John McBryde following his guilty plea in November 2013 to one count of possession of child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Sarah R. Saldaña of the Northern District of Texas.

According to documents filed in the case, special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) executed a search warrant at Greth’s home. Among the items seized were 45 compact disks (CD) containing child pornography. Greth admitted that he used his computer to search for images and videos of child pornography, downloaded them and burned them onto CDs and DVDs.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorney’s Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and identify and rescue victims.

The investigation and prosecution of Greth’s case is a reminder that the Northern District of Texas will aggressively pursue individuals who prey on children through the possession and distribution of child pornography.
