Local Man Found Guilty of Fentanyl Trafficking
A federal jury in Bridgeport has convicted a Norwich man of distributing fentanyl analogues on the dark web and possessing a firearm. 42-year-old Barry Duclos was found guilty of seven counts of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of fentanyl analogues, one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and carfentanil, and one count of possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
According to the evidence presented during the trial, between September 2017 and February 2018, Duclos operated a vendor page on the dark web’s Dream Market under the alias 1NOLEFB1. He advertised the sale of fentanyl analogues and used the U.S. Mail to ship the drugs to customers who paid using Bitcoin.
Duclos was arrested on February 12, 2018, after a search of his residence revealed a YHM rifle, multiple magazines, and a loaded firearm. Investigators also found fentanyl and carfentanil, as well as a computer used by Duclos to access Dream Market.
This is not Duclos’ first run-in with the law. He was previously convicted in state court in February 2001 of sale of narcotics and in March 2017 of larceny in the third degree. As a convicted felon, Duclos is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lauren C. Clark and Patrick J. Doherty are prosecuting the case. The investigation was led by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration, with the assistance of Homeland Security Investigations, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, Connecticut State Police, Norwich Police Department, and Robertson County Tennessee Sherriff’s Office.
Duclos has been detained since his arrest and a sentencing date has not been scheduled. The guilty verdicts were returned on [date] after a trial that began on July 21 before U.S. District Judge Victor A. Bolden.
