Nurse Conspired to Distribute Oxycodone

BUFFALO, N.Y.—In a shocking case of healthcare corruption, Samilyn Olson, a 47-year-old nurse from Jamestown, New York, was sentenced to one year of home detention and three years of supervised release for conspiring to distribute oxycodone.

Olson, a former nurse at the Veterans Affairs Community Based Outpatient Clinic in Jamestown, stole prescription forms from a nurse practitioner on eight occasions between May and September 2010. She then forged the nurse practitioner’s name and wrote prescriptions for oxycodone, which were filled by Olson or others at a local pharmacy in Jamestown.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch, the prescriptions were then distributed, perpetuating the oxycodone conspiracy. Lynch handled the case, which resulted in Olson’s conviction.

The investigation into Olson’s illegal activities was led by the Veterans Affairs, Office of Inspector General, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey G. Hughes, Northeast Field Office, the Veterans Affairs Police Department, under the direction of Acting Chief Stephen Colville, and the Jamestown Police Department, under the direction of Chief Harry Snellings.

The sentencing of Samilyn Olson serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of healthcare corruption. As a nurse, Olson had access to sensitive information and the trust of her patients, which she exploited for personal gain.

The case highlights the need for increased vigilance in the healthcare industry, where corruption can have devastating consequences. The Grimy Times will continue to monitor this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.

U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara handed down the sentence, bringing an end to the oxycodone conspiracy involving Olson.
