PITTSBURGH, Pa. – A resident of Pittsburgh has been charged with Supplemental Security Income (SSI) fraud and theft of government property.
A federal grand jury in Pittsburgh has indicted Dana Nicole Johnson, 54, for her alleged involvement in the scheme.
According to the indictment, Johnson concealed and failed to disclose events from May 2021 until June 2023 with the intent to fraudulently obtain SSI benefits. SSI is a monthly, needs-based payment benefit that is afforded to people with disabilities and the elderly who have little or no income.
Johnson allegedly failed to disclose income from her employment with a home health care service and the Department of Veterans Affairs. She is also accused of stealing and converting to her own use SSI payment benefits.
The indictment alleges that Johnson’s actions were in direct violation of the law, which provides for a maximum total sentence of up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both.
Assistant United States Attorney Brendan J. McKenna is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
The Social Security Administration–Office of the Inspector General and the Department of Veterans Affairs–Office of Inspector General conducted the investigation leading to the indictment.
An indictment is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
