Fa Deng, NJ Kidnapping Conspiracy, New Jersey 2024

Four ruthless New York gang members were handed down substantial prison sentences today for their sinister plan to abduct and hold a Fort Lee resident for ransom, the U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced.

Leaders Fa Deng, 44, Chiahao Lee, 32, Albert Ferrelli, 52, and Gabriel Anthony were sentenced to years behind bars for conspiring to commit interstate kidnapping. Their cold-hearted scheme targeted a man from Fort Lee, New Jersey, who they intended to kidnap and ransom for an estimated $680,000.

The chilling events began on April 5, 2022, when the gang drove to the victim’s home. Masked men, including Anthony and Ferrelli, bound the victim, duct-taped his eyes and mouth, and forced him into a waiting vehicle. The victims’ families were sent a terrifying photograph demanding the ransom.

Quick-thinking law enforcement responded to the ransom demand, leading to the identification of the gang’s getaway vehicle and subsequent arrests. A tense stand-off at a Queens building resulted in the rescue of the bound victim.

The sentences handed down today reflect the severity of their crimes: Deng received 144 months, Lee 180 months, Ferrelli 250 months, and Anthony 168 months in prison. Their sentences also include supervised release and hefty fines.

U.S. Attorney Sellinger credited a multi-agency effort for bringing these criminals to justice, including the FBI, Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Fort Lee Police Department, and New York Police Department.
