A New York City correction officer has pleaded guilty to participating in a bribery conspiracy, admitting to smuggling contraband to inmates at the Manhattan Detention Center in exchange for thousands of dollars in cash payments.
Christian Mizell, 48, of Queens, pleaded guilty to the charges in federal court in Brooklyn, where he faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The scheme involved Mizell and other correction officers conspiring to arrange the delivery of marijuana to them through text messages and phone calls.

Mizell is set to be sentenced by United States District Judge Pamela K. Chen, who accepted his guilty plea earlier today. The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the New York City Department of Investigation.
Assistant United States Attorneys Erik Paulsen and Nomi Berenson handled the case, which included allegations that Mizell conspired with others to deliver marijuana to him and other correction officers at the Manhattan Detention Center.
The guilty plea comes as part of the Eastern District of New York’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and public corruption within the city’s correctional facilities.
In a statement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office emphasized the importance of holding public officials accountable for their actions, saying, "This case is a reminder that corruption will not be tolerated in our city’s correctional facilities, and those who attempt to profit from their positions of power will be held accountable."
