TAISHA TERENCE ELMORE, 35, a Pittsburgh resident, has been indicted for allegedly misusing $70,000 in Supplemental Security Income Benefits intended for her minor children.

According to the indictment, Elmore converted the funds to her own use and made false statements to the Social Security Administration.

The indictment, returned on May 12, contains three counts, including theft of government property and false statements to retain Supplemental Security Income Benefits.

The law provides for a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison for the first count and up to five years for the other two counts.

Elmore could also face fines of up to $250,000 on each count. Her actual sentence would depend on the severity of the crimes and any prior convictions.

The Social Security Administration’s Office of Inspector General led the investigation that resulted in Elmore’s indictment.
