Tazewell Woman’s Guilty Plea Rocks Abingdon Community
A shocking case of a mother’s deceit has come to light in Abingdon, Virginia, as 50-year-old Glenna Elswick pleads guilty to federal firearms charges. According to court documents, Elswick illegally purchased at least seven firearms for her son, Matthew Elswick, who is prohibited from owning firearms due to his status as a previously convicted felon.
Between October 2016 and February 2017, Elswick made false statements on ATF forms when purchasing the firearms, claiming she was buying them for her own use. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) investigation revealed Elswick’s deceitful scheme, which ultimately led to her guilty plea in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Abingdon.
The case against Elswick was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Zachary T. Lee, who presented evidence of Elswick’s wrongdoing at the guilty plea hearing. Elswick’s actions put not only herself but also her community at risk.
Glenna Elswick, 50, pled guilty to one count of making a false statement in connection with the acquisition of a firearm from a licensed dealer and one count of providing a firearm to a prohibited person. The investigation and prosecution of this case serve as a reminder of the importance of responsible firearms ownership and the consequences of violating federal laws.
As the investigation continues, it is clear that Glenna Elswick’s actions had severe consequences. Her guilty plea may be a step towards justice, but it also highlights the need for increased awareness and education on firearms laws and regulations.
Residents of Abingdon and surrounding areas are left to wonder how such a deceitful scheme went undetected for so long. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
