OCALA, FL – United States Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe announced the return of a two-count indictment against Trevor Hedge, a 56-year-old registered sex offender from Ocala, charging him with attempted enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity and committing a felony offense involving a minor as a registered sex offender.
Hedge is facing a stiff penalty if convicted on all counts, potentially up to life in federal prison. Currently, he remains detained as his case progresses through the legal system.
According to court records, in May 2025, a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy posed online as a 13-year-old child. Hedge engaged the UC in a sexually explicit conversation after learning of the minor’s age and arranged to meet for sexual activity. Law enforcement apprehended him upon his arrival at the predetermined location.
Hedge’s previous conviction came in 1993, when he was found guilty of first-degree sexual assault. This new indictment highlights the ongoing threat posed by registered sex offenders who seek to exploit minors online.
The case is being investigated and prosecuted under Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. Assistant United States Attorney Sarah Janette Swartzberg is leading the prosecution.
Defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. The public is reminded to be vigilant about online safety, especially when interacting with minors on social platforms.
