KANSAS CITY, Mo. – OG Mike, the moniker that once ruled the streets of Kansas City, now serves as a reminder of the 14-year sentence imposed on Michael R. Davis for his role in a heroin trafficking conspiracy.
Davis, 73, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays to 14 years and two months without parole. His crime: participating in a heroin distribution ring from October 2012 to September 2016, with an estimated drug quantity of at least one kilogram but less than three kilograms.
The case took a dramatic turn on November 5, 2015, when police officers conducted a routine car check that turned into an arrest. Inside the vehicle parked in front of a Kansas City residence, they found Davis seated behind the wheel with co-defendant Barbara A. Chinneth, 68, standing at the door. Officers discovered 32 baggies of heroin on Chinneth, totaling 16.01 grams, and three more baggies containing 1.71 grams inside the vehicle.
Davis’s criminal history is as long as his street name, with 14 prior convictions including federal drug trafficking and a bank robbery where a bank president and another individual lost their lives. Now, he joins four other defendants who have been sentenced in this case, including Chinneth, who received nine years without parole.
This sentence concludes a high-profile prosecution led by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rudolph R. Rhodes IV and Trey Alford, with investigation support from the Kansas City Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
