Jeffery Alexander, Bank Robbery with Gun, Missouri 2023

ST. LOUIS – The grim tale of a brazen bank heist took a dark turn this week as Jeffery Alexander, 64, was sentenced to 138 months in prison for robbing a Florissant bank and firing a gun at a witness.

A U.S. District Judge Rodney W. Sippel imposed the sentence on Tuesday after Alexander pleaded guilty in February to one count of bank robbery, one count of discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The incident occurred on April 13, 2022, at a bank in the 1000 block of North Highway 67.

Dressed in a dark rain poncho, mask, and blue nitrile gloves, Alexander pointed a handgun at employees during the robbery and demanded money from a teller. His getaway was thwarted by a witness who followed him, only to be met with shots fired from his vehicle. But Alexander’s luck ran out when police tracked him down two miles away, where they found him in a Dodge Ram, his disguise, and his Hi-Point .40-caliber pistol.

Not new to the criminal underworld, Alexander has a lengthy rap sheet. He was sentenced to 20 years for an armed robbery in Illinois in 1981 and another 55 years for a second armed robbery conviction there.

The Florissant Police Department and the FBI led the investigation that culminated in Alexander’s conviction. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley M. Walker prosecuted the case with determination, ensuring justice was served.
