KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In a stunning development, Daryl O.D. Beck, 37, of Independence, has been charged with illegal possession of a stolen firearm, according to the Department of Justice USAO. The charges came after a federal grand jury indicted Beck on July 15, 2025.
Beck’s record is already marred by prior felony convictions for possession and intent to manufacture a controlled substance, as well as for aggravated assault. Today, the secret indictment against him was unsealed following his initial appearance in court.
Under federal law, it is an outright ban for anyone with a felony conviction to be in possession of any firearm or ammunition. The charges against Beck are merely accusations at this stage and do not constitute proof of guilt. It will be up to a federal trial jury to determine the evidence and decide on guilt or innocence.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brad K. Kavanaugh is handling the prosecution, while the Independence, Missouri Police Department led the investigation. This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and safeguarding communities from violent crime.
Operation Take Back America leverages resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN). The initiative has been a cornerstone in streamlining efforts to address the multifaceted challenges of criminal activity across the nation.
The case against Beck serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against illegal firearms and the Department of Justice’s commitment to enforcing the law and protecting public safety.
