ALBUQUERQUE – Donald Walter Fowler, a 47-year-old Ohio man, has pleaded guilty in federal court for making interstate threats against the District Attorney of Dona Ana County, New Mexico. Fowler’s menacing message, left via voicemail on October 26, 2023, contained a chilling threat: ‘There should be a noose in your future.’
Fowler faces up to three years in federal prison upon sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled. Additionally, he could be subject to up to three years of supervised release following his release from prison.
The FBI Albuquerque Field Office, with assistance from the Cleveland Field Office and the 3rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, investigated this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Niki Tapia-Brito is handling the prosecution. U.S. Attorney Alexander M.M. Uballez and Special Agent in Charge Raul Bujanda announced the plea today.
Fowler’s guilty plea comes as a victory for law enforcement efforts to protect public officials and ensure justice prevails. The severity of his actions underscores the importance of maintaining a safe environment for elected officials and their communities.
