Khourtney Alexandra King, a 29-year-old from Canton, Ohio, is headed to federal prison for eight months after being caught in a passport fraud scheme that unraveled in Ohio County, West Virginia. The crime? Passing off another person’s passport as her own to secure employment, a move that federal prosecutors say exposed vulnerabilities in workplace identity verification.
King pled guilty in March 2019 to one count of “Misuse of a Passport,” admitting she handed over the fraudulent document to her employer in November 2017 as proof of identity and citizenship. The act, though seemingly simple, carries stiff federal penalties — a reality King now faces behind bars.
U.S. Attorney Bill Powell confirmed the sentencing took place today in Clarksburg, West Virginia, where federal authorities emphasized that even non-violent fraud cases draw serious consequences when they involve federal documents. “The misuse of government-issued identification is not a victimless crime,” Powell stated. “It undermines national security and enables broader criminal activity.”
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn M. Adkins, with investigation led by the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service (DSS). Agents traced the passport’s origin and confirmed it belonged to an individual unrelated to King, whose identity remains protected.
Sentencing was handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr., who cited the deliberate nature of the deception in justifying the eight-month prison term. No fines were imposed, but King will face supervised release following incarceration.
The conviction serves as a stark reminder: in the eyes of federal law, tampering with identity documents — even for employment — is a felony that lands you in federal court. Khourtney Alexandra King’s name is now on that list.
