OKLAHOMA CITY – Anthony Dewayne Taylor, 20, has been nailed for 24 months in federal prison for possessing an illegal machinegun conversion device. The U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester announced the sentence.
Taylor, charged on September 5, 2023, was nabbed by Bethany Police Department officers during a traffic stop in April 2023. An investigation revealed that Taylor had modified a handgun with a ‘switch’ device, turning it into a fully automatic machinegun. During the stop, Taylor also tried to flee but was caught.
On December 12, 2023, Taylor admitted to having the conversion device and pleaded guilty. U.S. District Judge Timothy D. DeGiusti sentenced him on June 6, 2024, noting the gravity of his actions.
The investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in collaboration with the Bethany Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Danielle M. Connolly handled the prosecution.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) and “Project Switch Off,” aimed at reducing gun violence and illegal conversion devices.
