Okmulgee Man Sentenced For Firearm Possession

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Brett Wayne Pigeon, a 32-year-old Okmulgee man, has been sentenced to 40 months in prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

The charges against Pigeon arose from an investigation by the Okmulgee Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The indictment alleged that on March 23, 2018, within the Eastern District of Oklahoma, Pigeon knowingly possessed a Charles Daly, 12 gauge pump action shotgun, serial number 950658, a firearm which had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce.

The safety of the public is the top priority of federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies, said United States Attorney Brian J. Kuester. When agencies work together, as the OPD and ATF did in this case, we are able to maximize our impact and resources and make the communities we serve safer.

The Honorable Ronald A. White, U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, presided over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorney Dean Burris represented the United States. The defendant will remain in custody pending transportation to the designated federal facility at which the non-paroleable sentence will be served.

Pigeon was convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year and knowingly possessed a firearm in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2). Pigeon’s sentence is non-paroleable, meaning he will not be eligible for early release.

The Okmulgee Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives commend the efforts of law enforcement agencies in preventing violent crime and keeping communities safe.
