McKeesport Felon Busted for Ammunition Possession
A shooting at a McKeesport apartment complex on March 1, 2023, took the lives of two people and injured another. The incident led to a federal investigation and the indictment of Desmond Dontae Lee, 46, also known as Desmond Donte Lee Belton.
Lee, a McKeesport resident, faces a one-count indictment for violating a federal firearms law. According to the indictment, Lee was found in possession of ammunition on March 1, 2023, despite having been convicted of three prior felonies, including drug trafficking and firearms charges.
The indictment alleges that Lee’s possession of ammunition is a federal offense, as he was previously convicted of a felony. Federal law prohibits an individual who has been convicted of a felony from possessing a firearm or ammunition.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. Under the federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history of the defendant.
The Allegheny County Police Department and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation leading to the indictment. Assistant United States Attorney V. Joseph Sonson is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government.
