PROVIDENCE – In a gritty turn of events, Troy L. Antley, 56, a man with a sordid history of criminal convictions, pleaded guilty to federal charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The revelation came from Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.
Bloom detailed how on March 30, 2024, a Providence Police officer stopped Antley for a traffic violation. What unfolded was far more sinister. As the officer approached to seize a knife visible on the driver’s seat, he discovered a loaded firearm hidden in plain sight.
The firearm turned out to be a stolen 9mm Smith and Wesson semi-automatic pistol, reported missing from Alabama. The magazine held 16 rounds, with one already chambered. This was no mere possession of a weapon; it was a loaded, illegal firearm.
Antley now faces the prospect of being sentenced on November 20, 2025, by a federal district judge who will consider U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors in imposing his sentence.
The case is being prosecuted with vigor by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Stacey A. Erickson and Milind M. Shah, while the investigation was led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) and the Providence Police Department.
Antley’s illegal possession of a firearm is yet another black mark on his extensive criminal record, which includes state firearm, robbery, and drug trafficking charges, as well as a 2013 federal firearm charge. His latest admission to guilt underscores the dangerous nature of repeat offenders and the ongoing need for stringent law enforcement efforts.
