Olguin’s Dark Web Empire Crumbles
In a major blow to online crime syndicates, federal authorities have dismantled a massive dark web operation run by notorious defendant, Ricardo Olguin, 42, of Bakersfield, California.
According to court documents, Olguin’s illicit empire spanned the globe, with millions of dollars in illicit cash and goods being laundered through a complex web of shell companies and cryptocurrency transactions.
U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California alleges that Olguin, at the helm of his dark web operation, orchestrated the trafficking of narcotics, counterfeit currency, and stolen goods, netting himself an estimated $10 million in profits.
The case against Olguin, a.k.a. ‘Dark Lord,’ began unfolding in January 2024, when federal agents executed a series of raids on his Bakersfield residence and several associated businesses, seizing a vast array of incriminating evidence, including computers, phones, and financial records.
Olguin, who faces a litany of charges, including conspiracy to commit money laundering, operation of an unlicensed money transmitting business, and trafficking in counterfeit goods, is currently being held without bail at the Sacramento Federal Detention Center.
Attorneys representing Olguin, Eric H. MacMichael, Joseph Barton, and Henry Zazueta Carbajal III, have thus far declined to comment on the case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of California, however, has vowed to pursue justice in this high-profile case, citing Olguin’s alleged crimes as a ‘clear and present danger to our national security and the integrity of our financial systems.’
