Omaha Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Armed Bank Heists
Omaha, NE – In a federal court in Omaha, Tre D. Boswell, 27, of Omaha, Nebraska, was sentenced to 141 months’ imprisonment for bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. Boswell’s actions, along with a second unidentified suspect, led to the theft of nearly $200,000 from two banks in the Omaha area between December 2021 and December 2022.
Boswell and his accomplice used a firearm to threaten bank employees during the robberies, with investigators obtaining a general physical description of the suspects and the firearm they used. DNA evidence collected throughout the investigation, along with GPS data from Boswell’s phone, placed him at the scene of the crimes and further corroborated his involvement.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Great Plains Violent Crimes Task Force and the Omaha Police Department. Boswell will also be required to pay $195,217.50 in restitution to the affected banks and complete a 5-year term of supervised release after his release from prison.
The case highlights the significance of DNA evidence and GPS tracking in solving violent crimes. As Boswell begins serving his sentence, investigators continue to search for the second suspect involved in the robberies.
The harsh sentence handed down to Boswell serves as a warning to those who engage in violent crime. As the Department of Justice continues to crack down on such offenses, residents of Omaha and surrounding areas can feel a sense of relief knowing that justice has been served.
The lack of parole in the federal system ensures that Boswell will serve the full 12-year sentence without the possibility of early release. This outcome demonstrates the commitment of federal authorities to holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
