Syracuse, New York – In a shocking turn of events, Onic Martinez, a 34-year-old man from Amsterdam, New York, was sentenced to 120 months in prison for his role in a brazen gun store burglary in Schenectady County.
The heist, which took place on October 22, 2017, saw dozens of firearms stolen from Target Sports, Inc., a federally licensed firearms dealer.
Martinez, who has two prior felony convictions for robbery, pleaded guilty on August 30, 2018, and admitted to retrieving the stolen firearms from a storage locker in Schenectady, New York, where Christian Roman and Jose Fontanez had hidden them.
In exchange for his cooperation, Martinez received several of the stolen firearms, despite being prohibited from possessing them due to his criminal record.
Senior United States District Judge Norman A. Mordue also sentenced Martinez to 3 years of supervised release and ordered him to pay restitution in the amount of $48,775.
The case was investigated by the ATF, New York State Police, and the Glenville Police Department, and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Wayne A. Myers.
The sentences of Martinez’s co-defendants are pending, with Christian Roman and Jose Fontanez scheduled to be sentenced on April 10 and April 22, 2019, respectively, and Dalmary Morales and Juan Saez also set to be sentenced on April 22, 2019.
