Allen Man Sentenced to Five Years and 10 Months in Federal Prison for Meth Trafficking
Allen, South Dakota – A 31-year-old man was sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his role in a conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance in Allen, South Dakota, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Orin Three Stars, 31, was convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance and was sentenced to five years and 10 months in federal prison on August 15, 2022, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Three Stars will also serve five years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
According to court documents, Three Stars was involved in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in South Dakota. He obtained the drug from others and then distributed it for use and distribution. It was reasonably foreseeable that at least 500 grams, but less than 1.5 kilograms of methamphetamine, would be distributed during the course of the conspiracy.
The Badlands Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, which includes agents from the FBI, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, Bureau of Indian Affairs Division of Drug Enforcement, Martin Police Department, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Public Safety, investigated the case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich prosecuted the case, which resulted in Three Stars being remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service immediately after sentencing.
The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combatting the flow of illicit drugs into our communities and hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
The case is a reminder of the devastating impact of methamphetamine trafficking on individuals, families, and communities.
