BOSTON – The grim saga of immigration violations continues as Miguel Angel Ortiz-Rivera, a 39-year-old El Salvadoran national, now stands charged with illegal reentry into the United States. Ortiz-Rivera, who was last booted out on March 11, 2015, found himself in hot water again when Immigration authorities nabbed him on May 24, 2025.
According to federal prosecutors, Ortiz-Rivera’s brazen move to reenter the U.S. without permission comes after previous deportations in 2011 and 2013. The charges against him are serious: one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien carries the stiff penalty of up to two years behind bars, a year of supervised release, and a financial fine topping $250,000.
Ortiz-Rivera’s fate now rests in the hands of a federal district court judge, who will sentence him based on U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and applicable statutes. The Assistant U.S. Attorney Alexandra W. Amrhein is tasked with prosecuting this case, while United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston made the announcement.
Despite the charges, Ortiz-Rivera remains innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The details laid out in charging documents are merely allegations at this stage.
This latest chapter in the ongoing battle against illegal immigration serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by federal authorities tasked with enforcing our nation’s immigration laws.
