An Oviedo man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for receiving child pornography, according to a recent court ruling.
U.S. District Judge John Antoon, II handed down the sentence to Stephen Longest (27, Oviedo) for his crimes, which include receiving thousands of images depicting the sexual abuse of infants and young children.
Longest pleaded guilty on April 2, 2015, to the charges and was also ordered to pay $5,500 in restitution to a victim of the offense, and to forfeit the computers and electronic devices he had used to commit the crime.
For at least four years, Longest used a file-sharing program to receive the images, which were discovered by law enforcement during a search of his home. Hundreds of child pornography images were found on his smart phone and computers.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Assistant United States Attorney Karen L. Gable prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Longest’s sentence marks the latest in a string of convictions for individuals involved in the distribution and receipt of child pornography, and serves as a reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who engage in such crimes.
