Oxycodone Scam Sentences
BECKLEY, W.Va. – A pair of Beckley area residents have been brought to justice for their roles in a brazen oxycodone scam.
Sherry Lively, 46, of Crab Orchard, and Justin Woodie, 22, of Beckley, were sentenced to six months and three months in prison, respectively, for obtaining oxycodone by fraud.
According to court documents, the defendants forged prescriptions on stolen prescription pads and presented them to local pharmacies to be filled.
The scheme was uncovered by the DEA, which led the investigation into the duo’s illicit activities.
The cases were prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin.
The United States Attorney’s Office has pledged to aggressively pursue and shut down illegal pill trafficking, eliminate open-air drug markets, and curb the spread of opiate painkillers and heroin.
The convictions are a significant blow to the opioid epidemic plaguing West Virginia, and serve as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in such illicit activities.
Lively and Woodie pleaded guilty in January 2014 to their crimes, and have now been held accountable for their actions.
