OMAHA, NEBRASKA – Gregorio Pablo-Lares, a 38-year-old Guatemalan national formerly residing in West Point, Nebraska, is headed to federal prison after pleading guilty to a scheme involving a stolen identity and repeated violations of immigration law. The sentencing, handed down July 18, 2025, in Omaha, marks the culmination of a Homeland Security Investigations probe into Pablo-Lares’s brazen attempt to circumvent U.S. law.
United States Attorney Lesley A. Woods announced that Pablo-Lares received eight months’ imprisonment on each of two counts: false representation of a Social Security number with intent to deceive, and reentry of a removed alien. Chief United States District Court Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. ordered the sentences to run concurrently, meaning Pablo-Lares will serve a total of eight months behind bars. There is no parole in the federal system – he’ll serve the full term.
The scheme unfolded as Pablo-Lares sought employment at a Nebraska business. Instead of providing legitimate documentation, he presented a fabricated state ID card and a bogus Social Security card, brazenly using the name, date of birth, and Social Security Number (SSN) belonging to an unsuspecting American citizen. The Social Security Administration quickly confirmed the SSN wasn’t his, exposing the fraud. This wasn’t a crime of desperation; it was calculated deception designed to secure illicit employment.
But the SSN fraud was only part of the story. Authorities discovered Pablo-Lares wasn’t just attempting to work under a false identity; he was actively flouting a deportation order. An order to remove Pablo-Lares from the United States was initially issued in 2018. He wasn’t removed once, but three times – deported back to Guatemala on separate occasions in 2018 and 2019. Each time, he illegally re-entered the United States without authorization.
“This case demonstrates a clear pattern of disregard for U.S. law,” stated a source within Homeland Security Investigations who spoke on condition of anonymity. “Pablo-Lares repeatedly violated immigration laws and actively attempted to conceal his identity to benefit financially. The message is clear: such actions will be pursued aggressively.” Following his prison sentence, Pablo-Lares will face a one-year term of supervised release, a period where his activities will be closely monitored.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, highlighting the agency’s continued commitment to combating identity theft and enforcing immigration laws. The case serves as a stark reminder that the use of stolen identities carries significant consequences, and that repeated attempts to circumvent deportation orders will be met with federal prosecution.
