Palm Harbor Man Sentenced to 6 Years for Gun Sales

In a shocking case of gun trafficking, Steven Scott Schriebman (24, Palm Harbor) has been sentenced to 6 years in federal prison for the unlawful possession and transfer of machineguns and destructive devices.

U.S. District Judge Richard A. Lazzara handed down the sentence, which comes after Schriebman pleaded guilty on January 4, 2013, to the charges.

According to court documents, from May through November 2012, Schriebman sold high-powered assault rifles, including AK-47s, AR-15s, and an Uzi, to an undercover agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The agent was posing as a buyer, and Schriebman was selling the firearms from his residence in Palm Harbor.

But that wasn’t all – Schriebman also sold the undercover agent several explosive devices that he believed the agent needed to blow up a vehicle. He even offered to obtain silencers, military weapons, and bullet proof vests for the agent.

During the execution of a federal search warrant at Schriebman’s residence, agents recovered a number of additional assault rifles, machineguns, shotguns, handguns, pen guns, magazines, ammunition, assorted firearm parts, flares, firearm conversion kits, and other firearm paraphernalia.

This case is another example of the growing problem of gun violence in our community. The ‘Project Safe Neighborhoods’ program, a nationwide initiative to reduce gun violence, has been working tirelessly to bring cases like this to justice. Acting United States Attorney A. Lee Bentley, III, and Julie Leon, Special Agent in Charge, ATF, are coordinating the effort here in the Middle District of Florida in cooperation with federal, state, and local law enforcement officials.

Schriebman’s case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Josephine W. Thomas. This case is a sobering reminder of the dangers of gun trafficking and the importance of working together to keep our communities safe.

As the Grimy Times continues to investigate and expose cases of gun violence and trafficking, we urge our readers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
