Baton Rouge, LA – Francisco Palma, 45, Sentenced in Heroin Trafficking Case

Francisco Palma, a 45-year-old resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has been sentenced to 156 months in federal prison for his role in a large-scale heroin and cocaine trafficking operation in East Baton Rouge Parish.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Palma conspired with others to obtain, distribute, and possess with the intent to distribute large quantities of cocaine and heroin in the Middle District of Louisiana. The conspiracy began in or before October 2017 and continued until January 31, 2019.

Palma, along with co-conspirators Juan Villareal and Richard Antunez, purchased or obtained kilogram quantities of cocaine and heroin from sources in Mexico and supplied these drugs to each other if one or the other ran out before the next shipment came in. Palma distributed cocaine and heroin to Antunez, Marco Antonio Filos, and Clarence Corey Anderson for further distribution in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, and elsewhere.

Palma and his co-conspirators used telephones to discuss, negotiate, and arrange the purchase and sale of heroin, as well as to facilitate the exchange of monies related to the buying and selling of heroin. Agents seized over $250,000 in illegal drug proceeds, luxury vehicles, heroin, cocaine, and marijuana, and thirteen firearms during the investigation.

The investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office. Palma’s sentencing is the latest in a series of convictions related to this case. Juan Villareal, 40, of Roma, Texas, was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison, while Richard Antunez, 36, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, received a 70-month sentence. Marco Antonio Filos, 44, of Marrero, Louisiana, was sentenced to 26 months in federal prison, and Clarence Corey Anderson, 44, of Prairieville, Louisiana, received two years of probation.

Palma’s sentence includes three years of supervised release following his term of imprisonment. The Court also entered a forfeiture money judgment of $100,000 against Juan Villareal, representing the amount of proceeds that he obtained from the offenses.
