Fentanyl Kingpin Brings Down the Hammer
WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – In a blow to the opioid epidemic ravaging West Virginia, Paula Blake, a 45-year-old Wheeling resident, received her just desserts. The convicted felon was sentenced to 18 months of incarceration for her role in distributing fentanyl, a highly addictive and deadly synthetic opioid.
According to court documents, Blake admitted to conspiring with others to distribute cocaine base, also known as ‘crack,’ heroin, and fentanyl from September 2018 to June 2019 in Ohio County and other areas. The scope of her operation was staggering, with the illicit substances being peddled in close proximity to Luau Manor in June 2019.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn M. Adkins led the charge against Blake, securing her guilty plea in February 2020. The Ohio Valley Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, conducted the investigation that brought the fentanyl kingpin to justice.
U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey presided over the sentencing hearing, imposing the 18-month prison sentence on Blake. This harsh penalty serves as a stark reminder that those involved in the illicit opioid trade will face severe consequences.
The fentanyl distribution ring led by Blake was a significant contributor to the opioid crisis gripping West Virginia. The sentencing of this convicted felon marks a crucial step towards stemming the tide of this epidemic.
As the Grimy Times continues to shed light on the scourge of opioid addiction, we remain committed to holding accountable those who perpetuate this heinous crime. Paula Blake’s sentencing serves as a testament to the unwavering dedication of law enforcement and prosecutors in the fight against fentanyl trafficking.
