Local Man Indicted for Aiding and Abetting Fentanyl Distribution
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – In a shocking turn of events, Jermaine Lee Smith, a 34-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio, was taken into custody and charged with aiding and abetting the distribution of fentanyl.
According to sources close to the investigation, on April 29, 2022, Smith and Benjamin Jack Reed, a 42-year-old man from Huntington, sold approximately 27 grams of fentanyl to a confidential informant in a Huntington parking lot.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many expressing outrage and concern over the growing fentanyl epidemic in the region.
Smith’s plea deal comes after months of intense investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Cabell County Sheriff’s Department.
Smith will be sentenced on October 10, 2023, and faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie S. Taylor is prosecuting the case, with United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers presiding over the hearing.
