WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – Local Man Admits to Selling Cocaine
A shocking revelation has shaken the streets of Wheeling, West Virginia, as Quaison Maurice Harris, a 35-year-old man from Willoughby Hills, Ohio, has admitted to selling cocaine in the area.
Harris, also known as ‘Action,’ pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Distribution of Cocaine Base within 1000 feet of a Protected Location.’ The crime took place near Belle Isle Playground on Wheeling Island in February 2020.
The harsh reality of Harris’s actions has left many in the community reeling. As he awaits sentencing, the consequences of his actions are becoming clearer. Harris faces at least one and up to 40 years of incarceration, as well as a fine of up to $2,000,000.
Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant. This means that Harris’s sentence could be significantly impacted by any past convictions or other factors.
The investigation into Harris’s activities was a collaborative effort between the Ohio Valley Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, which includes the Drug Enforcement Administration, West Virginia State Police, Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, and the Wheeling Police Department. Additional assistance was provided by the U.S. Marshal Service, Columbus Police Department Gang Crimes Unit, the Martins Ferry Police Department, and the Bellaire Police Department.
U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone presided over the proceedings.
