A Rochester man has been sentenced to 97 months in prison for possession of child pornography, U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today.
Pedro Cruz, 40, of Rochester, NY, was convicted of possessing thousands of images of child pornography on his laptop computer, desktop computer, external hard drive, and CDs and DVDs.
The investigation began when law enforcement officers discovered the downloading of child pornography related to a website and a particular user name, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa M. Marangola.
The execution of a search warrant at Cruz’s residence revealed the shocking extent of his depravity, with forensic previews of computer-related items seized from the defendant’s residence revealing thousands of images of child pornography.
The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation on the part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Child Exploitation Task Force, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge Adam S. Cohen.
The task force consisted of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Rochester Police Department, the Greece Police Department, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations.
Cruz’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the severity of child pornography crimes and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat them.
