FORT WORTH, Texas — In a shocking display of depravity, Pedro Jose Meza, a 35-year-old Fort Worth resident, was sentenced to a total of 50 years in federal prison and a lifetime of supervised release for his role in producing and distributing child pornography.
Meza, who was arrested on November 5, 2015, following an investigation by Homeland Security Investigations, pleaded guilty in July 2016 to two child pornography offenses. The charges include one count of production of child pornography and one count of distribution of child pornography.
According to the factual resume filed in the case, Meza knowingly employed, used, persuaded, and induced a six-year-old minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of the conduct in June 2014. The disturbing image was produced at a Fort Worth home where Meza was living with the minor child and her mother.
In a separate and equally heinous act, Meza used the internet and the Kik messaging application to distribute a one minute, thirty-one second video of an adult male engaging in sexual intercourse with a prepubescent female in October 2015.
Meza’s crimes were committed as part of a nationwide epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse, which has spawned the ‘Project Safe Childhood’ initiative launched by the federal government in 2006. The initiative aims to combat the growing problem by marshaling federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and identify and rescue victims.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Aisha Saleem prosecuted the case, while Homeland Security Investigations conducted the investigation. Meza’s 50-year sentence is a stark reminder of the severity of child pornography crimes and the importance of continued efforts to combat this heinous offense.
Meza’s guilty plea and subsequent sentence are a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who work tirelessly to bring perpetrators of these crimes to justice. The sentence sends a clear message that child pornography will not be tolerated in our society, and those who commit these crimes will face severe consequences.
