Pemiscot County Meth Kingpin Sentenced to 140 Months
A Pemiscot County man has been sentenced to 140 months in prison for selling methamphetamine to undercover drug task force officers.
Davario D. Taylor, 34, of Caruthersville, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Cape Girardeau in October to two counts of distribution of methamphetamine and one count of aiding and abetting the distribution of methamphetamine.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Taylor sold a total of about 341 grams of meth to a Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force officer working with a confidential informant. On March 10, 2023, he sold about three ounces of meth for $250 an ounce. Five days later, he sold six ounces for $1,500. Three days after that, on March 22, 2023, he sold another three ounces.
Taylor has two prior felony drug sale convictions and a prior felony conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm, a sentencing memo says. His extensive criminal history weighed heavily on the judge’s decision.
The Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force and the Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Hunter prosecuted the case.
Taylor’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing serve as a warning to those involved in the illicit methamphetamine trade. ‘The sale of methamphetamine has devastating consequences for our communities,’ said a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Justice. ‘We will continue to prosecute those who peddle this poison.’
As Taylor begins his 11.67-year prison sentence, residents of Pemiscot County can rest a little easier knowing that one of their own has been held accountable for his crimes.
The case is a reminder that the war on methamphetamine is far from over, and law enforcement agencies will continue to work tirelessly to take down those involved in the trade.
