Rashaad Tariq Lee, Unlawful Possession of Stolen Mail and Means of Identification, Florida 2024

Rashaad Tariq Lee, 31, of Pensacola, Florida, faced federal justice for his brazen mail theft scheme. Lee was sentenced to 25 months in federal prison for Unlawful Possession of Stolen Mail and Means of Identification, announced by United States Attorney John P. Heekin.

Heekin commended the investigative efforts of the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for dismantling Lee’s fraudulent operations. ‘Mail theft and identity theft have dire consequences for victims,’ stated Heekin, vowing to pursue maximum penalties for such crimes.

Court records revealed that on February 22, 2024, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Lee’s apartment, obtained through the senior citizen’s identity he had stolen. Inside they found stolen mail, counterfeiting tools, and identification for several individuals, including driver’s licenses and social security cards.

The investigation identified 71 additional victims based on the items seized. ‘This prosecution sends a clear message: Mail theft will not be tolerated,’ said Acting Inspector Bladismir Rojo of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.

Sheriff Chip W. Simmons highlighted the collaborative efforts, ‘Teamwork delivers results. If you steal from our community, you will face justice.’ Lee’s sentence includes a three-year term of supervised release following his prison term.

Assistant United States Attorney Jennifer H. Callahan prosecuted the case, which was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
