Hartford, CT – Cesar Ruben Yllescas, a 45-year-old Peruvian national last residing in Hartford, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison for reentering the United States illegally after being deported.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Yllescas was arrested by Hartford Police on August 1, 2014, for possession of narcotics. On December 21, 2015, he pleaded guilty in state court to the drug offense and to a charge of failing to appear for a related court appearance.
Yllescas served approximately six months of imprisonment and was removed to Peru in June 2016. However, he was arrested again on May 8, 2019, in Hartford, and has been detained since his arrest. On September 11, 2019, he pleaded guilty to illegal reentry.
This matter was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Margaret M. Donovan. John H. Durham, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced Yllescas’ sentence, which was handed down by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford.
Yllescas’ sentence is a stark reminder of the consequences of reentering the United States illegally. His case serves as a warning to those who would attempt to circumvent our nation’s immigration laws.
Yllescas will begin serving his sentence immediately. It is unclear at this time if he will be eligible for parole or if he will be deported again after his release.
