TUCSON, Ariz. – Peter Vega, 38-year-old drug kingpin from Rio Rico, Arizona, has been sentenced to 180 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release for his role in a massive drug trafficking operation that spanned the United States.
Vega, who pleaded guilty on March 19, 2024, to Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl, Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, and Conspiracy to Launder a Monetary Instrument, was the leader of an organization responsible for distributing methamphetamine and fentanyl. He coordinated shipments of meth from Arizona to the eastern United States via the US mail and transported approximately 14 kilograms of fentanyl.
Investigators found drug packaging materials, photographs, videos, and incriminating chats on Vega’s residence and cell phone after obtaining search warrants. After being indicted, Vega fled to Mexico but was apprehended by U.S. and Mexican law enforcement in January 2023 and deported back to the United States to face charges.
