Pharmacy Bandit Sentenced to 7 Years
A 27-year-old man from Dexter, Maine, has been sentenced to almost seven years in prison for a brazen pharmacy robbery that left employees and customers shaken.
Michael Thompson, 27, was sentenced to 82 months in prison and three years of supervised release for his role in the March 10, 2012, robbery of the Rite Aid pharmacy in Guilford, Maine.
Thompson, who pleaded guilty to the charge on December 9, 2014, wore a bandana, hood, sunglasses and gloves when he jumped over the pharmacy counter and brandished a large hunting-style knife, demanding narcotics from the pharmacist.
According to court records, Thompson made off with over $5,000 worth of prescription narcotics, which he stuffed into his backpack.
The investigation into the robbery was a joint effort between the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office, the Maine State Police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock Jr. handed down the sentence, which also includes $5,178.58 in restitution, to be paid by Thompson.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of community safety and the consequences of violent crime.
