PHILADELPHIA – In a stunning turn of events, 22-year-old Isiah Surzano-Glover has been sentenced to 168 months in federal prison for two brutal armed carjackings. The sentence, handed down by United States District Judge Karen S. Marston, includes five years of supervised release.
The defendant, who posed as a woman named ‘Mercedes’ on a dating app, lured his victims to Philadelphia locations before carrying out the violent takeovers. On January 2nd, Surzano-Glover and accomplices carjacked P.M., stealing a Ford Crown Victoria. Just one day later, they targeted R.E., driving off in a Toyota Tacoma.
Philadelphia police swiftly responded to the scene of the crime, locating R.E.’s car unattended just half a mile away. A pursuit ensued after P.M.’s vehicle was spotted nearby. The defendant was ultimately apprehended following a foot chase.
In addition to the two counts of carjacking and one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, Surzano-Glover confessed to participating in four other carjackings in the city. The ATF and Philadelphia Police Department conducted the investigation, with Assistant United States Attorneys Michael Miller and Kwambina Coker handling the prosecution.
United States Attorney David Metcalf emphasized the severity of these crimes, stating that such violent acts have no place in our communities. ‘The sentence reflects the seriousness with which we view these offenses and our commitment to ensuring public safety,’ he said.
