A Manchester man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for accessing child sexual abuse material, according to a recent federal court decision.
Philip Longeway, 53, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Joseph Laplante to 15 years in federal prison and 10 years of supervised release on June 20, 2024, after pleading guilty to access with intent to view child pornography.
This is not Longeway’s first conviction for sex-related crimes. In 2006, he was convicted of travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct. While on federal supervised release in connection with that case, Longeway’s internet activity was monitored using software, which captured chat communications with a 15-year-old minor in New Jersey.
The monitoring software also captured screenshots of the minor performing sexual acts for Longeway during a Zoom video call on two separate occasions. Longeway had prior convictions for contributing to the delinquency of a child, felonious sexual assault, and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.
Longeway is a sex offender and a repeat offender who targets children. He has demonstrated time and again that he is a dangerous sexual predator.
According to U.S. Attorney Jane E. Young, Longeway’s sentence ensures that the community will be protected from him for the next 15 years. Prosecuting offenders of child exploitation has been a focus for her office, and she will continue to expend every resource available to protect children from harm.
Homeland Security Investigations led the investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Kasey Weiland is prosecuting the case. This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
