MOBILE, AL – The grimy streets of Mobile County witnessed a hard-hitting sentence meted out to Preston Buie, who was yesterday sentenced by a federal judge to 240 months in prison for Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine and Illegally Possessing a Firearm.
Buie’s conviction in January 2024 marked another chapter in his criminal history, which already included convictions for bank robbery and prior cocaine possession. The sentence is a stark reminder of the severity of federal drug and firearms charges.
The case took a turn on Interstate 10 around the Grand Bay exit in Mobile County when a deputy with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office stopped Buie’s vehicle following an alert from a drug detection dog. Inside, they found 12 kilograms of cocaine and a loaded 9mm pistol, sealing Buie’s fate.
U.S. Attorney Sean Costello of the Southern District of Alabama announced the sentence, emphasizing the federal government’s zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession.
The Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office worked tirelessly to bring Buie to justice, while Assistant U.S. Attorneys Tandice Blackwood, Kacey Chappelear, and Beth Stepan prosecuted the case with unwavering determination on behalf of the United States.
Buie’s sentence serves as a stark warning to those who dare to traffic drugs or carry illegal firearms in Alabama’s streets. The Grimy Times will continue to bring you the gritty details of such hard-hitting crime stories.
