Quadarius Thomas, Possession of Stolen Mail and Firearms, North Carolina 2024

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Quadarius Thomas, 30, of Charlotte, was sentenced to 54 months in prison for his role in a string of crimes that left victims reeling.

According to court records, Thomas was previously convicted of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and aggravated identity theft in 2023. Released from custody, he was placed under court-ordered federal supervision.

However, Thomas’s troubles didn’t end there. In November 2023, he was pulled over for a license plate violation in Charlotte, but things took a turn when he impersonated another individual and provided a driver’s license in that person’s name. Thomas also claimed to have a firearm in the vehicle, but didn’t have a concealed carry permit.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department issued a warrant for Thomas’s arrest after discovering he had provided false information during the traffic stop. Following a short foot chase, Thomas was taken into custody and a search of his vehicle revealed approximately $7,000 in cash, numerous licenses, and stolen checks, including a stolen $2.4 million U.S. Treasury check.

Law enforcement also searched Thomas’s residence and recovered additional fraud-related items, including 10 South Carolina drivers’ licenses and accompanying bank cards, bank checks, a South Carolina ID hologram, a printer, and two laptops.

On August 7, 2024, Thomas pleaded guilty to possession of stolen mail and aiding and abetting and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently in federal custody and will be transferred to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a federal facility.

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department led the investigation with the assistance of Homeland Security Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Graham Billings with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Charlotte prosecuted the case.
