Local Man Sentenced to 14 Years in Prison for Sexually Assaulting Minor

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – A Saskatchewan, Canada man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

According to public court documents, Quentin Joel Nighttraveller, 45, drove his fourteen-year-old daughter from Canada to the United States in his commercial truck.

Nighttraveller stopped to get the truck repaired in Rogers, Minnesota, where he sexually assaulted the victim. They continued the trip and while in Avoca, Iowa, the victim ran from the truck in the gas station and requested assistance. Nighttraveller drove away, leaving the victim behind.

This heinous crime has left the community shocked and outraged. The victim, who cannot be named for privacy reasons, was eventually rescued and is receiving the necessary support.

Nighttraveller will serve his 14-year prison sentence, followed by a five-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office. United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement.
